Which CBD should you choose?

CBD (or cannabidiol) is a product that is becoming increasingly popular. There are many ways to obtain this highly beneficial remedy, whether in a physical shop or online. How is it different from cannabis? Is it really legal? How do you determine the right dosage? These are all questions asked by the general public in response to this growing phenomenon. In this article, you will find the answers to all your questions to help you choose the right CBD for you.
Reminder on CBD
CBD, like its well-known counterpart, THC, is derived from hemp or Cannabis Sativa L, a plant that has long been used in the textile industry in particular. Unlike THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, CBD is not strictly speaking recreational. Discovered in the 1960s, it is now believed to have many interesting benefits for pain and stress management. CBD stimulates the endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for stabilising bodily functions. It helps you regulate periods of anxiety, control episodes of inflammation, achieve restful sleep, etc.
Even now, studies on the benefits of CBD are increasing and have yielded promising results. The important thing to remember is that the WHO has ruled in favour of CBD, stating that it presents "no risk to public health". This means that you can now consume CBD safely and legally. However, it should be noted that, as research is ongoing, CBD has not yet revealed all its secrets. Therefore, excessive use is not recommended.
Finally, remember that CBD is not a medicine. It is therefore not subject to medical controls but there is nothing to prevent you from discussing it with your practitioner, especially if you are already receiving treatment. CBD should remain an alternative means of improving quality of life, it is not a substitute for treatment of serious diseases. It is also contraindicated when taking certain medications such as oral contraceptives, antidepressants, etc.
A controlled compound, from hemp cultivation to CBD extraction
Firstly, there is no difference between the hemp from which CBD is extracted and that from which recreational cannabis is derived. It is the method of cultivation that is different. In France, there is a list of hemp varieties that can be legally cultivated to extract cannabidiol. The important aspects of hemp production are:
- soil quality;
- air quality;
- sunlight;
- irrigation.
Therefore, it is a fairly easy plant to grow, which thrives in the open air. However, nowadays there are more and more indoor crops, which provide growers with the opportunity to control all criteria for successful cultivation without the drawbacks sometimes experienced in nature (temperature, weather, pests, etc.). CBD flowers grown in this way generally have a higher CBD content than their outdoor counterparts. In between these two methods is the so-called "greenhouse" cultivation method, which benefits from the advantages of indoor farming in a more sustainable and cost-effective way. The quality and yield are less than those grown indoors, but it is still a good alternative. No matter the cultivation method, always choose a European organic crop that ensures respect and control.
Extraction methods have evolved over time, ensuring a purer and more concentrated product. Today, conventional oil or solvent extraction methods pose problems in terms of efficiency and toxicity. Although both processes have been shown to work, the extracted product does not contain the full benefits of CBD because of their low content. Additionally, the use of chemicals can leave solvent residues in the extract, which is not very appealing in terms of well-being.
A more recently developed technique promises very good results: CO2 extraction. This technique ensures that the CBD extracted does not lose its properties during the extraction process. Therefore, the quality and efficacy of cannabidiol is guaranteed. If you’re looking for excellent CBD, you’ll want to look for CBD that has been extracted using CO2 rather than a liquid solvent, industrial gas or vegetable oil.
The many reasons to use CBD
When considering which CBD to choose, it is worth taking a look at the many reasons why we might want to use CBD. Recent studies on cannabidiol have shown that it can provide relief from a number of conditions, whether associated with general health, stress, disturbed sleep, etc. Although research is still ongoing, a link can already be made between CBD consumption and the perceived calmness of those who use it.
Which CBD is best for stress relief?
Our modern lifestyle has given rise to a new disease of the century: anxiety. Although this condition is not new, it seems to have been developing and becoming increasingly common for some time now. Why is this? In an ultra-connected society, with the immediacy of information and everything moving at a faster pace, mental health is being greatly affected. Although there are many ways of dealing with this, from temporary stress to depression, CBD is a beneficial non-drug alternative to existing treatments. Taking conventional drugs is often accompanied by side effects, sometimes severe, but also by addiction and even long-term dependence. They are also subject to restrictions and are strictly controlled by a doctor. CBD acts on the endocannabinoid system to counteract the mechanisms of anxiety. Its relaxing effect is due to its influence on serotonin (happiness hormone) or cortisol (stress hormone), among others.
To get the most out of cannabidiol’s effect on stress, CBD oil seems to be the best option. It is administered sublingually, usually with 2 to 3 drops per dose. It takes a few minutes for the effects to be felt, depending on the individual, and you are guaranteed relief for 2 to 3 hours. As far as dosages are concerned, it is always best to start small and increase the amount depending on how you feel. We advise that you calculate the volume of CBD to consume according to your weight.
Which CBD should you choose for pain relief?
Pain management is a real problem, especially when suffering from a chronic disease. Taking conventional painkillers can have many consequences if used over a long period time or on a regular basis. Overdoses of paracetamol or ibuprofen can have a serious impact on health. Therefore, CBD may be an ideal alternative to these drugs as it is natural and has no known side effects. However, it is essential to remember that it can interact with other drugs. Therefore, a medical check-up is necessary if a patient would like to add CBD to their curative therapy. Cannabidiol is not intended to cure, but to soothe. It is used for chronic inflammation, for example, lower back pain, cramps, joint pain or painful periods, but it also helps to prevent the side effects of conventional analgesics.
There are several ways to benefit from the pain-relieving properties of CBD to help soothe pain, and the most common method to do is by using CBD oil. You can, however, consume CBD in different forms which will give you similar relief. And as each individual is unique, so is his or her responsiveness to cannabidiol. Try CBD infusions to enjoy the benefits of the plant, CBD capsules to guarantee you take the right dosage or even CBD-based creams for localised pain relief!
Which CBD should you choose to achieve better sleep?
Sleep is one of the pillars of our health. If it is disrupted, a whole mechanism is disrupted, with fairly severe consequences, ranging from simple "fatigue attacks" during the day to depression. Therefore, it is important to maintain effective, restorative and regular sleep. CBD does not behave like a sleeping pill. It acts on the causes of insomnia (anxieties, parasitic thoughts, etc.), rather than on insomnia itself. The effects are beneficial, and several studies have shown that those who use sleeping pills prefer to replace them with CBD as it produces similar results without causing addiction.
CBD used as part of an evening routine creates a positive environment rest, and generates long-term benefits. The routine is the starting point of a virtuous circle that will contribute to restored calm, all while enjoying a CBD tea with verbena for example. If you fall asleep more easily and have a calmer night, your whole day will be better. You can enjoy the benefits of CBD in an oil enriched with melatonin, also known as the sleep hormone. The melatonin and CBD oils provide the relaxing effects of CBD and a supply of melatonin to facilitate falling asleep and maintaining a restful nights’ sleep.
